A Phoenix man used an electric grocery store cart as a get-away vehicle after allegedly shoplifting from a Mesa grocery store.
A witness called police on March 15 saying he was in pursuit of a man who stole an electric cart from the Fry's Food Store at Alma School Road and Main Street, court records show.
Police say they found 31-year-old Scott Dale Shern riding an electric cart about half a mile away. They said he appeared to be intoxicated.
When the officer asked Shern why he was using the cart, he reportedly told them, his "feet were hurting."
Officers found several items in the cart's basket that were allegedly stolen for the store. He reportedly admitted to taking the items because he was hungry and thirsty.
He faces charges of theft and shoplifting.
