The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office arrested a Mesa man for chasing his wife with a machete outside their home.

Court documents show that on February 29 Jesus Rafael Ceja, age 53, confronted his wife in their outside laundry room with a two-foot machete. He tried to drag her into the home telling her that he was going to kill her.

The victim resisted by holding onto a gas pipe near the back door of their home near Hawes and Broadway Roads.

MCSO says the victim screamed out  "he's going to kill me." After hearing her scream, Ceja released her. The woman continued screaming and neighbors came out, calling for her to come to their home for protection.

MCSO says one of the neighbors them confronted Ceja who reportedly told them, "I did something wrong with my wife, I need to leave, the cops are coming."

The neighbor told Ceja to stay but he instead went into the home. MCSO arrived before Ceja could leave and found the machete in the home.

Ceja is being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
