TEMPE, AZ — Tonopah residents detained an alleged burglar at gunpoint after a Christmas Day theft.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office reports that on Christmas morning, Tonopah residents detained one burglar at gunpoint, while another escaped after running over another resident with a side-by-side ATV.

MCSO says residents caught Zelan Buckelew, age 34, as he and another person were loading a generator onto the ATV.

The victim who was hit by the ATV was not seriously injured, according to MCSO.

The suspect that fled the scene was eventually captured by MCSO after being spotted by a DPS helicopter. That suspect has not yet been charged with any crime, but MCSO is continuing to investigate.

Buckelew has been charged with burglary.
