MCSO: Armed Litchfield Park resident captures burglar

LITCHFIELD PARK, AZ - An armed Litchfield Park resident was able to capture a man burglarizing his home.

On October 28, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office received a call from a woman saying her husband was holding a burglar in their home at gunpoint.

When deputies arrived at the home, near 127th Avenue and Bethany Home Road, they found 23-year-old Andrew Steven Hammer sitting on the dining room floor. When deputies searched Hammer, they allegedly found keys to the victim’s SUV in his pocket.

Deputies also searched the SUV and reportedly founded several bottles of wine, which were removed from the home. The victims reported to MCSO that several items in the home, including electronics and a rug, were moved from their original location.

Upon his arrest, Hammer allegedly admitted to breaking into the home, blaming his intoxication.

He has been charged with burglary.
