An argument over a defecating dog led police to find two men who were allegedly transporting drugs to Ohio.

Police say that on March 7, 31-year-old Ronnel Hardwick was walking his dog near Power and Baseline Roads in Mesa when the dog defecated in the parking lot. He was approached by a man who told Hardwick he needed to clean up after his dog.

The two were in an argument when Hardwick pulled out a handgun and fired several shots.

The victim left the area and reported the incident to police.

Police say they tracked Hardwick down to an apartment about a block away. Police found the gun, but also found marijuana, more than $10,000 in cash and evidence that shows Hardwick and 31-year-old Robert Sherman Willis were packaging and sending the marijuana to Ohio.

Both men have been charged with aggravated assault, marijuana possession and weapons misconduct.
