PHOENIX — A man trespassing in a restricted area of Deer Valley Airport told police that he "didn't want to walk around."
Phoenix police report that on March 1, around 11 p.m., they responded to Deer Valley Airport near 7th Avenue and Deer Valley Road for a report of a suspicious person.
The police helicopter reportedly spotted a man, later identified as Ruben Lalo Zamarripa, 29, "trying to slip underneath the gate." When officers arrived, they allegedly saw Zamarripa inside the restricted area, digging a hole with his hands.
Zamarripa allegedly explained to the police that he wanted to get to the other side of the airport but didn't want to walk around. Once he entered the restricted area, he needed to dig a hole to get out on the other side of the airport.
He has been charged with criminal trespassing.
