A man, whom police say was recently released from prison, robbed three banks in six days in Phoenix and Tempe.

Tempe police report that 38-year-old Joseph Bogart Gullie robbed a Mid First Bank in Phoenix near Central Avenue and Van Buren Street on April 25, getting just over $1,100 in cash. Gullie allegedly entered the bank and gave the teller a note saying, “Pass the money over, mean business, have protection, Thanks."

After the clerk read the notes, Gullie reportedly told him, "Not too fast, not too loud."

Surveillance photos of the robbery were sent to police officers who recognized Gullie as someone that had been arrested on March 31.

On May 1, Gullie struck two more times. That morning, he hit the Comerica Bank near Mill Avenue and University Drive. He gave a note to the teller which simply stated, "money bag." The clerk was confused by the note and Gullie apparently got frustrated, because he fled the bank without the money.

Later that afternoon, Gullie allegedly robbed the BMO Harris Bank also near Mill Avenue and University Drive. This time he left the bank with nearly $2,600 in cash.

Security people were still in the area from the earlier robbery and witnessed Gullie outside the bank and "behaving oddly." Police were called and spotted Gullie in a parking garage near the bank. Police say Gullie admitted to all three robberies, saying he was homeless and needed the cash.

He reportedly told police that he used the money from the first robbery to buy Budweiser and get a hotel room.

He's been charged with multiple charges of burglary and robbery.
