United Airlines told employees Wednesday that service cuts are among drastic new measures the carrier is taking in response to the growing coronavirus crisis.

United will reduce its international schedule by 20 percent in April and its domestic schedule in the United States and Canada by 10 percent in April, according to a memo from CEO Oscar Munoz and President Scott Kirby that was obtained by the Chicago Business Journal.

Munoz and Kirby also warned employees that similar cuts could be coming in the May schedule.

The carrier said it is implementing a hiring freeze immediately that will extend through “at least June 30 except for roles that are critical to our operations."
