Tesla gets OK to keep operating Bay Area factory under latest Covid-19 rules

California officials have given the green light to Tesla Inc. to continue to operate its giant Fremont, Calif. electric car factory during the latest Covid-19 crackdown.

On Nov. 20, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) said that Tesla employees were “essential workers.”

That designation meant that they would be able to continue to work from the factory in Fremont's Warm Springs district even with Gov. Gavin Newsom's move last week to impose various business restrictions to help deal with a surge of Covid-19 cases.

One big issue for the factory, which has employees working shifts around the clock, was whether they could keep operating from the hours of 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., when a newly-imposed curfew on much of California is in effect.
