Raytheon Co. has chosen Tucson as the headquarters of its new missiles and defense division, according to reports.

Raytheon outlined plans to combine the former missile systems and integrated defense systems in Tucson after the merger with United Technologies Corp. is completed, according to a leaked internal memo obtained by the Tucson Sentinel.

Raytheon is in the middle of an all-stock merger of equals announced June 9 with Farmington, Connecticut-based United Technologies, with the unified entity to be known as Raytheon Technologies Corp.

The merger still needs approved by the federal government and company shareholders and is expected to be completed early this year.
