In another example of how businesses and organizations are changing how they normally do things because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the NCAA is holding a site visit in Phoenix this week to determine if the city will land an upcoming Women’s Final Four in Phoenix — but it is all being done virtually.
Phoenix, along with three other cities, is bidding to host the 2026 Women’s Final Four. A number of partners from around the Valley, including Visit Phoenix, the City of Phoenix, the Phoenix Mercury and Arizona State University, are working together on the bid.
Instead of in-person visits to venues where games and other events would be held, checking out hotels and meeting people from around the city, NCAA officials are doing it all online this year.
“As a business decision, we needed to proceed with the selection process despite the pandemic,” Lynn Holzman, the NCAA’s vice president of women’s basketball, told the Business Journal.
