PHOENIX — Sprint and Verizon have both launched their faster 5G wireless networks in the Phoenix area, making the city one of the few U.S. markets that have the next generation of mobile service.

Sprint Corp. (NYSE: S) rolled out its 5G service Tuesday for the greater Phoenix area, with Phoenix as the ninth U.S. city for the rollout.

Nearly 740,000 people are covered at launch in the Valley, including parts of Glendale, Scottsdale and Tempe.

Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ) went live with its 5G service on Aug. 23 in the downtown Phoenix area and in Tempe on the Arizona State University campus. Phoenix is the 10th U.S. city to get Verizon's faster service.
