After withdrawing an offer to the incoming dean of the Cronkite journalism school at Arizona State University, officials have named long-time Senior Associate Dean Kristin Gilger as the school's interim leader, effective immediately.

Gilger has been part of the Cronkite leadership team since 2007, working alongside Christopher Callahan, who resigned as Cronkite dean to become president of the University of the Pacific.

Sonya Forte Duhé had been chosen to replace Callahan, but that offer was withdrawn after she was accused of making racist comments to several African American students.

In a letter to Cronkite alumni, Gilger said she is honored to be appointed interim dean.
