Freeport-McMoRan shuts New Mexico mine after coronavirus spread

Freeport-McMoRan Inc. has closed a mine in New Mexico as more of its workers there were stricken with the coronavirus.

The Phoenix-based mining giant and world's largest copper producer closed the Chino copper mine after a continued outbreak of COVID-19.

What started out with three sick workers has spread to an undetermined amount, according to Reuters.

The Chino mine, in southwestern New Mexico, is the third-largest copper producing mine n North America.
