Amazon announced this week that it is opening its own health centers near its fulfillment centers and other operations facilities.

During the initial phase of a pilot program, Amazon plans to establish a total of 20 health care centers in five U.S. cities: Phoenix; Louisville, Kentucky; Detroit; San Bernardino-Moreno Valley, California; and Dallas-Fort Worth.

The first of its Neighborhood Health Centers will be in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, where 20,000 Amazon employees, including 11,000 in operations, work, the company said.

Amazon said the goal of the pilot program, a partnership with Crossover Health, is to serve a total of more than 115,000 associates. Amazon has nearly 10,000 employees in Arizona.

If Amazon deems the program successful, it plans to roll out more health care facilities in other cities, the company said in a blog post.
