PORT ST. LUCIE, FL — A police department in Florida says a 23-year-old went through a fast-food chain drive-through and tried to pay for his order with a bag of marijuana.

The Port St. Lucie Police Department says Anthony Andrew Gallagher's barter request was denied by the employee and he drove off.

Officers arrived and took a report, and decided to remain nearby. The suspect returned and again went through the drive-through. Officers went to talk to the driver, and smelled a "heavy odor of marijuana" coming from the car, according to a Facebook post by the department.

Police say Gallagher admitted to offering the food-for-marijuana barter, but said he did so as a joke. Eleven grams of marijuana was found in his car.

Gallagher was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and driving under the influence.

It’s unclear if Gallagher attempted to pay for his order with drugs the second time. It’s also unclear if he has a lawyer.
