WEST HARTFORD, CT — A boy has been charged in a knife attack injured his mother and killed his sister.
West Hartford police responded to a home on Monday afternoon for a report of a stabbing. The 12-year-old's mother and sister were rushed to the hospital, where the sister later died, according to WTNH-TV.
The child was taken into custody, and charged with first-degree murder on Tuesday. His mother remains hospitalized in stable condition.
Neighbors who live nearby said the family showed no outward signs of trouble.
“You don’t know what happens from inside everybody’s home. Everyone seems picture perfect but you don’t know,” Sally Guglielmo told the TV station.
The West Hartford mayor issued a call for donations to organizations that help in the aftermath of crises and the school district had counselors available to help students who knew the brother and sister.
Police have not released any details about a possible motive for the attack.
