After 50 years, the famous Flintstones-themed roadside attraction in Northern Arizona is closing.
Bedrock City is located about half an hour away from the Grand Canyon South Rim, just off Arizona State Route 64.
The theme park first opened back in the early ’70s after being purchased by owners Francis and Linda Speckles. Francis Speckles had a hand in founding the original Bedrock City in South Dakota.
Spanning over 30 acres of land, the property also served as a campground and RV park.
Bedrock City remained true to it’s theme by making sure every aspect of park resembled a piece of the cartoon classic.
The entire Flintstone gang was featured at the park, including Fred Flintstone, Welma Flinstone, Betty Rubble, Barney Rubble, Bam Bam, Pebbles, and Dino.
Fred’s Diner served up breakfast, lunch and dinner from a Flintstones-themed menu. Some options included Bronto Burgers, Fishasaurus Sandwich, Chickasaurus Dinner and Gravelberry Pie.
Bedrock attractions included a slide down a brontosaurus dinosaur’s tail and a train ride through the theme park’s onsite “volcano.”
Flintstones memoriabila like stuffed Dino’s and character T-Shirts were available for purchase at the gift shop.
The camping ground even provided visitors with access to Welma’s Laundry and Barney’s Grocery Store.
With such a long list of amenties, it’s no surprise why the theme park was a signature roadside attraction for so long.
A new owner is set to take over the property on Friday. According to a spokesperson, the new owner plans to build a new attraction. No word yet on what exactly that new project will be.
