Margaritas are great for toasting warm weather and looking forward to brighter days. And this margarita recipe that features grapefruit juice offers the perfect combo of sour, salty and sweet.

While traditional margaritas put lime juice front and center, this version stars the tart taste of everyone’s favorite pink citrus fruit. To make the cocktail, you will need the juice from 2-3 fresh grapefruits. (Check out this crash course in the different types of grapefruit and how their flavor profiles differ.)

You will also need limes, Cointreau (you can also use Grand Marnier), and of course, your favorite brand of tequila!

You can add ice and make this in the blender if you want it frozen, but if you don’t have a blender handy, you can just serve it chilled. A lightly salted rim at the top of the glass completes the recipe.

Looking for other unique margarita recipes? Try a pink lemonade margarita made with frozen pink lemonade concentrate. If you’re running low on fresh citrus, this is a clever way to make sure that your margs have lots of sweetness and brightness.

Get a few cans of pink lemonade concentrate to store in the freezer, and you will never have to panic when you realize you’re out of limes or you have no other citrus to blend in your margaritas.

For yet another refreshing spin on the classic margarita, try these spicy cucumber margaritas from Ali at Gimme Some Oven. This mouthwatering drink is made with cucumber, limes, oranges and a touch of agave (you can doctor the amount to match your tastebuds, depending on how sweet you like your margaritas).

Best of all, this recipe features a sweet chili salt rim. Chili powder, salt and sugar make for a spicy-sweet combination lining the top lip of the margarita glasses, elevating this margarita into something you would find at an expensive cocktail bar.

Make sure to keep these recipes for Cinco De Mayo, or anytime you have margarita craving.
