Demand has led officials behind a special weekend showing of Prince's "Purple Rain" at Harkins Theatres to expand the number of times the performance will play at Tempe Marketplace.

Organizers first announced plans to hold the Oscar-winning show earlier in the week, originally set for 7 p.m. at Tempe Marketplace and Tucson Spectrum on Saturday and Sunday.

However, the theater chain said Saturday afternoon that the 7 o'clock show that night in Tempe was sold out, and in response show times at 10 p.m. and 12:45 a.m. were added. A 10 p.m. showing for Sunday was also added in Tempe.

In Tucson, Harkins added a 10 p.m. showing for Saturday.

As with the initial announcement, tickets are $5 and proceeds will benefit City of Hope.

The 57-year-old singer died on Thursday at his home in suburban Minneapolis. His death remains under investigation.
