Top events for families around Phoenix in July

Hard to believe it is already July.

While it means summer and 110-degree temperatures for much of Arizona, it also means a lot of events around Phoenix.

We gathered a few of the more family-friend events going on this month.

Valley Youth Theatre’s Disney’s The Little Mermaid (July 10-26)

It is a Disney love story and classic. Mermaid Ariel dreams of a world above the sea and she’s willing to give up her voice to find true love.

Winter in July (July 16)

Yes, you read the zoo’s forecast correctly, it’s going to snow at the Phoenix Zoo! You can walk around the zoo and see all of the animals enjoying either snow or sweet treats. Plus, there will be 35 tons of snow for you to play in and make snow angels, as well as a live DJ and crafts.

Desert Stages presents Into The Woods (July 8 – August 7)

It’s a new take on your favorite fairytales. A baker and his wife who wish to have a family and cursed. To break it, they have to journey through the woods and complete the witch’s tasks. Through the journey, the family meets some familiar faces: Cinderella, Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood.

Arizona Science Center

The World of Giant Insects (through Sept. 5)

Giant robot insects have invaded the Arizona Science Center! Don’t worry, they’re welcome guests. Guests will be able to watch these larger-than-life robotic versions of their small counterparts and see how they move, the details of their bodies and how they live.

Shawn Mendes (July 22)

Shawn Mendes is a singer and songwriter who has taken hold of the music charts. You probably know his song, “Stiches.” He’s coming to Phoenix.

All About Bats + Night Safari + Snake Feeding (July 16)

It’s a busy night at Usery Mountain Regional Park. Head out onto the trail for a one mile, one hour hike along the Merkle Trail to learn about the animals that live in Arizona’s deserts and how they survive. Bring water, a flash light and closed toes shoes (a must).
