Top 11 shows coming to Scottsdale arts center

Stars of RENT, Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal, are coming to Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts to celebrate 20 years of the Broadway hit show later this year.

Other Broadway stars headed to Scottsdale include Kate Reinders, Telly Leung, Mandy Gonzalez and Patti LuPone. SCPA announced its 2016-2017 season last week.

The lineup also includes the U.S. debut of Havana Cuba All-Stars and include performances that cover a variety of genres and talents (dance, Broadway, instrumental, jazz etc.).

"Our 2016–17 season will introduce audiences to many exciting new talents, and welcome back some of our most beloved performers for special return engagements," said Director Ally Haynes-Hamblen in a media release.

JOURNEY TO BROADWAY: Kate Reinders, Telly Leung, Mandy Gonzalez

Three stars from Broadway will sing songs from some of the shows they’ve starred in and share “candid showbiz stories.” Leung has performed in Rent and Wicked. He also had a role in the TV show, Glee. Reinders’ credits include Something Rotten, Wicked, Into The Woods and Good Vibrations. Gonzalez includes Wicked, Aida and the TV show, Madame Secretary.

ADAM & ANTHONY LIVE: CELEBRATING 20 YEARS OF RENT

Jonathan Larson’s RENT opened on Broadway on April 29, 1996. He died before seeing his work hit to Broadway. Anthony Rapp (Mark) and Adam Pascal (Roger) has been synonymous with Rent both originating their roles on Broadway and in the motion picture. Both will perform songs from their solo careers and from the show, including some “clever new arrangements.”

THE 7 FINGERS OF THE HAND (Les 7 doigts de la main)

“7 Fingers of the Hand” was founded in 2002 to bring the circus to a human scale—“hoops, trapeze, teeterboard, juggling, dance, theater and comedy.” The latest show, Cuisine & Confessions, takes place in a kitchen and “brings together eye-popping acrobatic choreography and pulsating music while evoking the joy and powerful memories associated with cooking.”

THIS IS DEDICATED: MUSIC’S GREATEST MARRIAGES – Jarrod Spector & Kelli Barrett

Broadway’s Newlyweds Jarrod Spector (Beautiful-The Carole King Musical, Jersey Boys) and Kelli Barrett (Dr. Zhivago, Wicked) try to answer the question, “what’s it like to be married to a fellow artist?” Through a series of love songs, they try to answer the question.
