Even though it rarely snows in the Valley, that doesn't mean we cannot partake in those winter traditions like ice skating!

CitySkate

CITYSKATE PHOENIX

Lace up the skates and take a spin around the ice in the heart of downtown Phoenix. CityScape's ice rink, CitySkate, officially opens on Nov. 24. It has a decorated Christmas tree in the middle while a nearby mural is a great spot for family photos. The ring is open every day and Santa Claus visits on the weekends. If you get hungry, there are restaurants and bars nearby. More information.

Skating admission is $15 and includes skate rental. Seniors, military members with ID, and children under eight can skate for $5. Tickets can be purchased online or at the rink. Underground parking at CityScape is $4 an hour. You can get a two-hour validation when you eat at a restaurant at CityScape.

Mesa's Merry Main Street Festival

MESA'S WINTER WONDERLAND ICE RINK AT CITY PLAZA

Mesa's Merry Main Street Festival starts on Nov. 24 with ice skating, a four-story Christmas tree, and "selfie" stations. Santa Claus will visit on Fridays and Saturdays for free family photos.

The 5,000-square-foot ice rink will be open through Jan. 5, 2018. The festival is free and ice skating is $10 per person and includes rental. More information.

Westgate Entertainment District

There is also an ice skating rink at Westgate Entertainment District in Glendale! The rink is near Fountain Park and the 46-foot Christmas tree.

The cost is $11 if you bring your own skates or $15 to rent skates. Parking is normally free, but because of Arizona Cardinals games, there will be a $10 parking fee on Nov. 26, Dec. 3, Dec. 10 and Dec. 24. More information.

Tempe Marketplace will have a synthetic ice rink set up near The District Stage over the Thanksgiving weekend. The rink is intended for children five and older. There is no cost to skate, but each person will need to wear socks. Throughout the season, there will be a nightly snowfall near the stage at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. More information.

Christmas at the Princess

The Scottsdale Fairmont Princess's annual Christmas at the Princess event is one of the most elaborate festivals in the Valley. It has a 6,000-square-foot ice rink that is open nightly throughout the season, but also more than 4 million lights, lighted train rides, s'mores making and character visits.

The cost to is $55 - $85 per vehicle. That includes six wristbands for the festival. Ice skating is an additional $25 per person. You will save $5 if you bring your own ice skates. More information

 

ICE DEN CHANDLER AND SCOTTSDALE

Ice Den has public skating throughout the year, but on Nov. 24-26 it will have a post-Thanksgiving "Turkey Skate." It will offer two hours of public ice skating at both of its locations for $7, which includes skate rental. You do have to be at least five years old to skate. More information.

Queen Creek's Schnepf Farms will also have an ice rink open for the season along with a bunch of other activities. Right now it is too warm for the ice rink to be open. The cost to ice skate is $12.
