Oh no. Phoenix's Zombie Walk is no more

Nooo! The Phoenix Zombie Walk is dead (and not the dead-like-a-zombie kind either).

Organizers said after seven years the event "grew beyond our wildest nightmares" and became too big to plan, manage, staff and fund.

"Our attempts to move Zombie Walk to a larger venue and allocate enough funding and personnel to fully support this larger-than-life festival simply fell short. With less than six months until October, we made the decision to let the event die peacefully on a high note," organizers said Sunday in a media release.

Last year's event had 20,000 zombies attend and 11 tons of food was donated to St. Mary's Food Bank. With that many, they nearly reached capacity at Heritage and Science Park, according to the release.

Downtown, Inc. puts on and supports other downtown Phoenix events, including Viva PHX, CultivEAT and Urban Wine Walk.
