TEMPE, AZ — Trader Joe’s, the national grocery chain, opened last week near Arizona State University, marking its second location in Tempe.

The grocery store opened on Friday, July 10, within the Cornerstone shopping center near University Drive and Rural Road, just east of ASU's campus.

It opened in the building that previously housed FastMed Urgent Care and Blick Art. FastMed relocated to another space within the plaza.

According to a news release, the new Tempe store features artwork that “highlights, and pays tribute to, a number of local landmarks and attractions including 'A' Mountain, Tempe City Hall, Hayden Flour Mill, Tempe Center for the Arts, Tempe Bridge, and ASU Stadium.”

The grocer has another Tempe store near Guadalupe Road and McClintock Drive.

It is the second grocery store to open recently in Tempe.

Whole Foods opened last fall beneath an apartment complex near Ash Avenue and University Drive. That store replaced the Whole Foods located at Rural and Baseline.
