The 2016 Maricopa County Fair is underway!

The Arizona State Fairgrounds have been revamped with carnival rides, tasty deep-fried treats, livestock competitions and stage shows, including a Superhero Stunt Bike Show, monster trucks and dueling pirates.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

When: April 13-17
Where: Arizona State Fairgrounds, 1826 W. McDowell Road, Phoenix, AZ 85007
Hours: Fri.-Sat., 10 a.m. – midnight, Sun. 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Admission: $9 (8 and older); parking is $8 per vehicle.
Unlimited ride wristband: $30

WHY YOU SHOULD CHECK IT OUT?

DIETS DO NOT COUNT. That’s right. At the fair, according to organizers, calorie-restrictive diets no longer matter (at least for the day). So take the day and enjoy some of the culinary fair favorites, like a giant Turkey Leg, deep-fried coffee, funnel cakes and more. Plus, you can't rule out all the walking you'll be doing.

THE RIDES. Hop on board the giant Ferris Wheel and get an aerial view of the entire fairgrounds. We recommend checking it out at night so you’ll be able to see all of the lights. This year there are 39 rides to check out whether you’re with the family or a group of thrill-seekers.

Check out the Big Top, the newest Circus-themed fun house filled with tricks and obstacles. Other rides include Spin Out, Vertigo, Zillerator Coaster and Fireball.

THE SHOWS. There is a ton of entertainment throughout the fair weekend. You can check out some dueling pirates diving off their ship (which is eight stories high), or catch the Superhero Bicycle Stunt Show. Not to mention there will also be Freestyle Moto X and a crushing monster truck show in the Sanderson Ford Arena on certain days. How awesome is that? View full entertainment schedule.

LIVESTOCK COMPETITION: Livestock competitions and auctions are where county fairs originated from and is still a big part of the event. Support your fellow Arizonans who’ve spent several months caring for their animals to make perfect for the fair. You’ll also have a chance to learn about raising livestock, agriculture and showmanship.
