On Monday night, ASU Gammage unveiled the lineup for its 2016-2017 Broadway Season.
Celebrating its 51st anniversary, the Tempe theatre is bringing back a few Broadway staples ("Cabaret", "Mamma! Mia", "Book of Mormon") as it usually does, as well as many of the latest Tony-Award winning productions on Broadway, such as "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical", "An American In Paris" and "The Curious Incident of the Dog in Night-Time."
While there's reason to be excited about this season, some audience members could arguably already be looking forward to the 2017-2018 season when "Hamilton" (announced in February) and "Fun House" (announced during Monday's event) make their way to Gammage's stage.
Something new this year is a magic (illusion performance) show is coming as a special engagement. The Illusionist features seven of the top performers with skills in deception, escape, tricks and more.
"I'm really happy," said 17-year-old Madison Schaecher, who's really looking forward to Hamilton's run.
Bill Aichele, of Chandler called the lineup "wonderful." When asked about which show he was most looking forward to he said, "That's hard to say." He ended up selecting The Sound of Music since he had not seen the stage show before.
