CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — A 6-month-old baby is in critical condition after agents from U.S. Border Patrol found the child with her father, who was among a group of 21 migrants crossing the Rio Grande into the United States on Thursday, according to a press release from CBP.

According to the press release, "a group of 21 people apprehended three miles west of Roma Port of Entry Thursday at 1:30 a.m" on August 22.

The father and his daughter were subsequently taken to the Rio Grande Valley Sector’s Central Processing Center. Around 9:20 a.m., medical staff at the processing center determined the 6-month-old needed to be taken to the hospital.

CBP says at 9:40 a.m., the child was transported to Edinburg Regional Children’s Hospital in Edinburg, Texas. She was then airlifted to Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Because there was no room in the helicopter, the 6-month-old's father was driven to the hospital, where the girl remains in critical condition.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the young girl and her father during this difficult time," CBP said in a press release.
