The ground keeps shaking in Arizona! There have now been over 20 earthquakes in nine days in the Grand Canyon State.

The Arizona Geological Survey said a magnitude (M) 2.7 earthquake shook northwest Arizona just after midnight on Thursday along with a (M) 2.2 earthquake. The earthquakes were two minutes apart.

This latest earthquakes follow a swarm of quakes that have occurred in the Littlefield, Arizona area.

On March 29, a M 2.3 earthquake occurred 23 miles southwest of Littlefield.

AZGS said the earthquake resulted in a swarm of 18 small earthquakes that happened until April 3.

On April 3, a M 2.6 earthquake happened in the same area, one of the largest events of the swarm of earthquakes.

According to AZGS, the trend of this earthquake swarm is similar to other events that happened in central and northern Arizona.

AZGS said strong lineaments in the landscape suggests there are possible active faults north of the largest earthquake.

In the past year there have been significant earthquakes in Arizona.

On November 2, 2015 M 4.1 and 4.0 earthquakes centered in Black Canyon City, Arizona shook the Phoenix area. A M 4.7 earthquake shook the Kachina Village, Arizona area on November 30, 2015 .
