Teen in custody after Peoria double shooting

A 17-year-old male is in custody after a double shooting in Peoria on Monday.

Peoria police said on Monday afternoon they responded to a report of a shooting at Braewood Park near 87th Avenue and Peoria Avenue.

When officers arrived on the scene they found a 16-year-old with multiple gun shot wounds. He was transported by helicopter to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. A 14-year-old was also shot. He was transported by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

According to police, both victims are expected to survive.

Police said the two victims were playing basketball when the suspect approached them and they got into an altercation.

The suspect was found and taken into custody near 91st Avenue and Peoria Avenue. He was booked into the Durango Juvenile Detention Center for two counts of aggravated assault.

Police believe the incident was an isolated incident and there is no public safety risk at this time.
