The Avondale Police Department arrested a man Thursday in connection with an embezzlement scheme that targeted a veterans group.

Investigators said Kirk Davis, president of Pat Tillman Memorial Veterans of Foreign Affairs Post 40, is accused of stealing over $100,000 from the VFA accounts over the last two years since he became president.

It is unclear how many people were affected by the alleged embezzlement.

Davis was booked into the Maricopa County Jail on theft by embezzlement charges. He could not be reached for comment.

Marvin Courtright, an Army veteran who is not a member of VFW Post 40, said his feelings went from shock to outrage.

“That’s stealing from veterans,” Courtright said.
