Police say 53-year-old Manuel Anthony Garcia was found dead after a fire at a Mesa home.

Authorities were called to the home near Broadway Road and Val Vista Drive on Saturday afternoon after receiving reports about a fire.

A Mesa police spokesperson says once firefighters arrived at the scene, they were told by family members that a man in his 50s was still inside the home.

Fire crews located Garcia in a "fully involved bedroom," Mesa fire said.

He was trapped in a room towards the back of the home.

"They actually ripped the window frame off, and went through the window to get directly to the person who was trapped inside," a Mesa fire spokesperson said.

Neighbor Corina Munoz said she talked to a woman who had escaped from the burning home.

"She said that the door popped open, like exploded, and hit her on the side [of the face]," Munoz said.

An investigation is ongoing and it's unknown how the fire sparked inside the home.
