Police are investigating after a man was found stabbed in a vehicle outside of a Chandler fitness center on August 18.

People entering the LA Fitness near Warner and Dobson roads reportedly called 911 around 11 a.m. that day in response to the emergency.

According to officials, a car was not parked properly and inside there was an older white man with multiple stab wounds.

He was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

Police identified the victim as 84-year-old Shivaswamy Hosakote. Authorities said they had no information about a suspect.

Family spoke Monday about the tragedy, and released this statement:

"Shivaswamy was a kind and gentle soul who touched the lives of many.  Shivaswamy devoted his life to serve as an engineer for Maricopa County, and as an involved member of Phoenix's India community.  Shivaswamy was always willing to help others, taking care of all of us and spreading his warmth and joy to everyone he met.  This loss has devastated his surviving wife of 50 years, his large extended family, and many friends.  The family is shocked at this sudden and senseless killing and we are unable to comprehend who would harm such a warm and generous person.  We wake up every morning thinking of Shivaswamy and how he suffered in his last moments.  We are forever deprived of Shivaswamy's booming laugh, his reassuring voice, and his words of wisdom.  We will miss Shivaswamy every single day, and we can never get him back.  We hope that no other family will experience the pain that has been inflicted on us.  If anyone has seen or heard anything please come forward and helps us find justice for Shivaswamy."

The circumstances surrounding the stabbing have not yet been determined.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Chandler Police Department at (480) 782-4130 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS. Officers said they especially want to talk with anyone how was at the LA Fitness between 9 and 10 a.m. Thursday.
