Phoenix Police: Impaired person drives car onto sidewalk, strikes a pedestrian

PHOENIX - A person is hospitalized in very serious condition after being struck by a car in central Phoenix Sunday afternoon.

Police were called to the area of 24th Street and Indian School Road around 3 p.m. after receiving reports of an accident in the area.

According to witnesses, a car was heading westbound on Indian School When when it crossed into the eastbound lanes and drove on the sidewalk. The driver allegedly hit a person who was walking in the area.

The suspect remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, a police spokesperson said.

Impairment is believed to have been a factor.

Indian School Road is closed from 24th Street to 26th Street for the next several hours. Check here for the latest traffic updates.
