A 9-month-old boy was pronounced dead Saturday after being found face-down in a bucket of water at an apartment complex, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

Officials said they were called out to a complex near Bethany Home Road right off of Interstate 17 right before 7 p.m.

The infant had no pulse and was not breathing.

Firefighters immediately transported the boy to Phoenix Children's Hospital.

Subervi says hospital staff administered critical care for at least 20 minutes but he was pronounced dead.

Subervi says firefighters have no idea how long the infant had been submerged.

Phoenix police spokesman James Holmes says the boy's mother and a sibling were in the home at the time.

Police are still trying to determine how the boy ended up in the bucket.

The incident remains under investigation.
