Phoenix police say officers have made an arrest in the case of a man who broke into a home and shot and killed a family’s dog.

Police say Brian Tibbits and a friend climbed through a doggy door at the home near 35th Avenue and Deer Valley Road on September 19 and shot and killed a Boxer mix dog. The pair also took jewelry, a handgun, a credit card and electronics from the home, according to court paperwork.

The following day, Tibbits used the stolen card at a store near 23rd Avenue and Happy Valley Road, police said.

Police say a tip led investigators to Tibbits over the weekend. Court records say he admitted to committing the robbery with a friend, who was only identified as "Bobby," and was told the house belonged to Bobby's sister.

Paperwork also details Tibbits told police he was the one who used the stolen credit card the day after the robbery but said Bobby was the one who shot and killed the dog with a gun he brought to the robbery.

Investigators are still working to track down Bobby, according to court records. No last name was given.
