A judge in Phoenix has sentenced a former U.S. Postal Service employee convicted of stealing mail that included cash and gift cards to nine months in prison.

Denise Robertson of Tolleson was sentenced Tuesday by U.S. District Judge John Tuchi on her November 2015 jury convictions for theft of mail by a postal employee and possession of stolen mail.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says Robertson stole mail from her route, other carriers' routes and at the post office where she worked. She is accused of stealing approximately 70 pieces of mail on one day alone in June 2014.

The 51-year-old was a Postal Service for 20 years.
