An 18-year-old student was arrested for sexually assaulting a classmate at Coronado High School in Scottsdale.

Police reports stated Tristan Figueroa on April 28 followed a girl he attended school with into a "secluded" and "small" room where she was doing classwork.

The victim told Figueroa repeatedly to stop touching her and told him no, but he continued to engage in sex with her.

Figueroa told police that he heard the victim tell him to stop multiple times but said he "thought it was OK due to her body language". He said he wouldn't do it again and even wrote the victim an apology letter.

He was arrested Friday and booked on charges of sexual assault.

The Scottsdale Unified School District sent the following letter to families of students at Coronado:

Dear Coronado Parents and Guardians,

Scottsdale Police are currently investigating a sexual assault that involves two of our students. Coronado High School and the Scottsdale Unified School District are fully cooperating with police in their investigation, which is ongoing.
Neither the District nor Coronado are commenting at this time, so as not to jeopardize the investigation. Important privacy rights are at issue and, therefore, discretion is imperative.

SUSD supports all of its students and takes this type of allegation very seriously. Additionally, our high school has cameras, security guards and a school resource officer (SRO) on campus. As always, our students' safety is a top priority.
