Tucson Police are working an officer-involved shooting near midtown, according to Tucson Police Department Sergeant Kimberly Bay.

The shooting happened near Columbus Boulevard and Fairmount Street. Around 11:15 a.m., an officer was conducting a traffic stop on a bicyclist. The cyclist somehow fell off his bike and Tucson Fire Department came to treat him. After being treated, the bicyclist pulled out a gun.

The original officer and another officer who came to help him were struggling to get the gun when a shot was fired from that weapon. That bullet did not hit anyone.

The bicyclist refused to give up his gun and was shot by an officer. He was taken into custody and is in life-threatening condition at the hospital. Bay says the involved officers from the Tucson Police Department are okay.
