A dust storm was the setting for a chain-reaction crash along a stretch of Interstate 8 Tuesday night, which ended with the cab of a semi-truck nearly fully lodged in the trailer of another tractor trailer.

The crash, which was located about 15 miles west of Casa Grande, involved two pick-up trucks and three semi-trucks, according to Arizona Department of Public Safety Capt. Glen Swavely.

The only person who was injured, a semi-truck passenger, suffered minor scratches and bruises and was treated at a nearby hospital, Swavely said.

He also said that the three semi-truck drivers will likely be cited.

DPS troopers were dispatched to the crash scene just before 6:30 p.m.

No hazardous cargo was involved and diesel fuel did not spill onto the highway, Swavely said.

The highway was closed during the remainder of the dust storm and intermittently as crews worked to clean the wreckage.
