Ice skating in Phoenix: 7 things to know about downtown Phoenix's ice skating rink

During the holiday months, downtown Phoenix's CityScapeturns into a winter wonderland with lights, a decorated tree, a nightly snowfall and ice skating.

While the East Coast gets buried in snow, we can still enjoy some of the activities in the desert with warm temps, sunshine and blue skies!

Before you head down, here is everything you need to know about the hours, prices, parking and where to eat.

WHERE IS CITYSCAPE LOCATED?

CityScape is located in downtown Phoenix near Washington Street and Central Avenue. Plug in 1 W. Washington Street, Phoenix AZ 85003 into your navigation system and it will take you to CityScape (you can't miss it).

In the general area, there are meters, underground parking garages and parking lots for your car. You will have to pay for parking. The light rail is another option and has stops nearby.

WHEN DOES IT OPEN?

Ice skating will open the day after Thanksgiving, Nov. 25, and stay open through Jan. 8, 2017.

A grand opening and tree lighting ceremony will take place on Saturday, Nov. 26. Ice skating starts at 3 p.m., Santa arrives at 4 p.m. and the tree lighting happens at 6 p.m., according to the media release.

 

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO SKATE?

There are two skating sessions during the week and three skating sessions on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Depending on which one you go to, admission is either $10 or $15 per person. Admissionincludes skates and skating time.

The earlier session -- 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. -- is $10 per person. The 5 p.m. - 11 p.m. session is $15 per person.

Children under 8, seniors and military (with ID) are $10. Children under three are free. On Sundays, students (with ID) can skate for $10.

BUYING TICKETS: Ticketscan be purchased at the rink or online. However, tickets purchased online cost $25 and come with a VIP Fastpass, which will allow you on the ice first.

 

HOW LATE IS THE SKATING RINK OPEN?

Monday - Thursday, 5 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. - 11 p.m.
Friday, 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., 5 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., 8 p.m. - 11 p.m.
Saturday - Sunday, 3 p.m. - 5 p.m., 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., 8 p.m. - 11 p.m.

SPECIAL HOLIDAY HOURS:
Christmas Eve hours: 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.
Christmas Day hours: 5 p.m. - 11 p.m.

 

NIGHTLY SNOWFALL

Each night, there will be a nightly snowfall at Patriot's Park in CityScape. The snow falls at 7 p.m. 8 p.m. and 9 p.m.

 

SANTA COMES TO VISIT!

You cannot have winter without Jolly Old Saint Nicholas. Santa will visit on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m.

 

WHERE SHOULD WE GRAB DINNER?

You have fast-casual chain restaurants at CityScape such as 5 Guys, Chipotle, and Jimmy John's. However, if you're looking to try a local restaurant, Sam Fox's The Arrogant Butcher, Copper Blues, Tom's Tavern (now serving dinner), Blue Hound, and Squid Ink are there, too.

Blocks away (hail an Uber, Lyft, cab or light rail), you have Hanny's, Pomo Pizzeria, The Vig, Cibo, Pizzeria Bianco.
