Monsoon storms slam parts of the Valley Monday

MESA, AZ — Parts of the Valley were slammed with monsoon storms Monday night.

It all started when a massive wall of dust moved through the southeast part of the Valley early in the afternoon.

Later in the day, north Phoenix along Loop 101 received heavy rain as a storm moved from east to west while drivers were heading home from work.

By Monday evening, parts of Mesa got drenched with rain as storms moved from south to north, crossing Loop 202 Red Mountain. The rain continued into the West Valley, dropping heavy rain in some areas.

According to the Maricopa County Flood Control District, many Valley areas received between a trace and a half-inch of rain, while others saw 1-1.93 inches of rain. A New River rain gauge recorded 2.28 inches of rain in the last 24 hours.

  • Downtown Phoenix: 0.28”
  • Litchfield Park: 0.83”
  • Luke Air Force Base: 1.69”
  • Mesa (Fitch Park): 0.79”
  • New River Landfill: 2.28”
  • Peoria: 0.87”
  • Phoenix (27th and Grand avenues): 0.63”
  • Sun City West: 1.54”
  • Wickenburg Airport: 1.46”

No serious damage has been reported during this storm.
