PHOENIX — The man accused of killing his girlfriend and dumping her body in a landfill had his first day on trial Monday.

Robert Interval is charged with first degree murder. The prosecution said Interval was obsessed with the thought of Mustafa cheating. They said Mustafa had plans to leave him, and after she confided with her co-workers, she never showed up to work the next day.

Surveillance video shows Interval pulling up to the landfill, where prosecutors believe Mustafa's body is. While investigators searched the landfill, Mustafa's body was never found.

The defense said it's possible Mustafa isn't even dead, and that she left the country to start a new life.

After opening statements, Mustafa's sisters took the stand.

Suzann Mustafa described Christine as, "A very loving person, warm hearted, responsible mother."

The trial continues Tuesday.
