For more than five decades, University of Nebraska football fans have released balloons after the team’s first touchdown.

That tradition may be coming to an end if Randall S. Krause gets his way.

Krause has filed a lawsuit against the university, saying the red balloons pose a threat to both young children and wildlife when they fall back to earth. He contends the balloon tradition amounts to "the open dumping of solid waste."

But get this: The university uses biodegradable, natural latex balloons and cotton strings! And while there's plenty of debate over exactly what is biodegradable, it sounds to me like the Huskers are environmentally conscious.

So come on, Mr. Krause: Let's find something far more important to get upset about than a bunch of balloons. Let the Huskers have their fun!
