Barktoberfest: Friends for Life Animal Rescue hosts the 20th annual event, featuring shopping, fine arts and crafts, life entertainment, dog wash, agility course, dog adoptions, dog costume contests, raffles and more. There's an 11 a.m. alumni parade for families who have adopted dogs from Friends for Life. Admission is free, but some activities require a donation. 8:30-1:30pm. Gilbert Town Center, 50 E. Civic Center Dr., Gilbert.

Saturday & Sunday October 12 & 13
Railfair: Saturday and Sunday explore all things railway including model train displays, exhibits and a variety of seldom seen vintage railroad equipment. Paradise & Pacific Railroad and Charros Carousel rides are $3; children 2 and under ride free with a paying adult. 10am-5pm. Free admission. McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park, 7301 E. Indian Bend Rd., Scottsdale.

Extreme BMX Stunt Show: Saturday and Sunday see X-Games athletes show off their wicked skills during this FREE weekend-long stunt spectacular, performed on BMX bikes, skateboards and scooters! Featuring the Big Air Halfpipe, witness non-stop, high-flying action including Jump Ramp and Flatland Freestyle stunt shows. Bring the entire family for this fast-paced, action-sports festival with athlete meet-and-greets, autographs, pictures, prizes and more! Free. 10am-5pm. Courtyard of OdySea in the Desert, 9500 E.
