KINGMAN, AZ — Two people have been arrested after a woman was found dead and buried in a backyard inside a 55-gallon drum.

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office says 23-year-old Carrie Vanover and 31-year-old Mark Baldanado Jr. were arrested after a search warrant was served at a home earlier this week.

The sheriff's office says the body was found inside a drum buried in a shallow grave. It is believed to be that of Shawn Vanover, the mother of Carrie. Officials say an autopsy will positively identify the body and determine how the person died.

The homicide is believed to have taken place in April. Authorities received information about the unreported homicide on July 12.

Both suspects allegedly confessed their involvement in the homicide upon their arrest, according to a news release.

Both remained in the Mohave County jail on charges of first-degree murder as of Wednesday evening.
