The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a dog’s head was found in a Wittmann yard.
MCSO says they received reports around 7 p.m. Sunday regarding an attempted burglary.
According to officials, the burglary victim told investigators that the suspect, or suspects, opened the gate to his backyard and his dogs escaped.
While searching for his dog, the person said he looked over the fence into the yard next door and discovered a dog’s head.
As investigators arrived on the scene, they determined that the dog had been dead for an extended period of time.
MCSO said the dog's head was probably dragged onto the property by scavenger animals.
There was no evidence of a crime, deputies said.
