Lawmakers opposing a controversial transgender bill in Arizona are hoping the bill won't even be voted on.

The group stood outside the state capitol Thursday morning opposing HB2706.

The proposed law would prohibit any transgender female from playing on a girl's sports team. It would apply to any public or private K-12 schools, colleges, universities or community colleges.

The bill's sponsor says it's intended to protect a woman's right and keep girls on an even playing field.

Supporters also say it's not stopping a transgender girl from playing sports.

Opponents highly disagree and call the bill divisive and cruel.

HB2706 is expected to be voted on this coming Monday.
