PHOENIX — The last 12 months have had moments that were exciting, some that were harrowing, but many that also brought smiles to many faces in Arizona, and across the country.

ABC15 sat down with anchors Katie Raml, Javier Soto, Kaley O'Kelley, and Nick Ciletti to ask about their most memorable moments of 2022.

Javier Soto:

One of the first memorable moments of 2022 for Javier Soto was when he joined ABC15 in June 2022.

"It's just been filled with so much growth, so much learning, and just really settling in to this role and meeting and working alongside so many great journalists," Javier said.

"I mean, that's really been the most memorable, memorable part of my 2022."

Javier's favorite story to report this year:

"I'd have to say, Micah, a three-year-old little boy who has this fascination with firefighting, and met some Glendale firefighters when, unfortunately, there was a fire down the street from his house. But they shared this bond and then we got them to invite him into the Glendale firehouse and give him a VIP tour. It was just, it was one of those moments where you see the pure joy on this little boy's face. And not only from him, you also saw some of the firefighters recall when they were kids, and something you know, some of them talking about that seed that was planted that led them to become firefighters eventually."

Kaley O'Kelley:

Kaley O'Kelley explored multiple little-known or lesser-known places in our state in 2022, highlighting Arizona's "hidden gems."

"It's been really great to be able to go find free things to do, things we've all driven past a million times," she said.

One of her favorite "hidden gems" was Cosanti — home to the late Italian architect and artist Paolo Soleri.

Nick Ciletti:

Nick covered many empowering and important education stories this year, sharing stories from around Arizona's classrooms.

"Arizona’s a diverse state and we also have a lot of diverse education options,” he said. “The one that sticks out to me is the bilingual education and how it’s really taken off in Arizona.”

The kids “just blow my mind,” Ciletti said.

He talked with students and teachers who spend half of their day with a teacher in English and the other half in Spanish. It allows the students to of course learn another language, but also culture, art, and perspective.
