Early numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau show a 10,000 increase in Goodyear's population.
The bureau wrapped up its mid-decade count and the city appears to have nearly 75,000 residents.
Goodyear opted to conduct the count that began Oct. 1 in an effort to gain more state-shared revenue. That's a source of income based on a city's population.
The 2010 Census count had Goodyear's population at slightly more than 65,000 residents.
That would have remained the number used to calculate the city's portion of state-shared revenue through 2020, when the next U.S. Census Bureau count takes place.
The new number means the potential for an additional $1.45 million annually for Goodyear for the next five years.
